Bee Gees

25 albums with 284 songs. 16 other songs. 300 songs in total.

1965 The Bee Gees Sing And Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs (14)

It's Bee Gees' very first album and they are hitting the ground running. 14 excellent songs: "Timber!", "Claustrophobia", "Take Hold Of That Star", "And The Children Laughing", "Could It Be", "Follow The Wind", "I Don't Think It's Funny", "Wine And Women", "How Love Was True", "To Be Or Not To Be", "Don't Say Goodbye", "I Was A Lover A Leader Of Men", "You Wouldn't Know" and "Peace Of Mind". "Timber!" and "Take Hold Of That Star" were first released as singles in 1963. "Claustrophobia", "Could It Be", "Peace Of Mind" and "Don't Say Goodbye" were released as singles in 1964.

1966 Spicks And Specks (13)

Bee Gees' second album. One superb song: "Spicks And Specks". And eleven good ones: "Monday's Rain", "Jingle Jangle", "Playdown", "Big Chance", "Where Are You", "I Don't Know Why I Bother With Myself", "Second Hand People", "Glass House", "Born A Man", "Tint Of Blue" and "How Many Birds". The album's initial title was "Monday's Rain" and a very small number of albums was actually manufactured with this name. When "Spicks And Specks" was added to the album (replacing a weak song called "All Of My Life"), it was renamed accordingly.

1967 Bee Gees' 1st (14)

It's actually Bee Gees' third album, but since the first two albums have only been released in Australia, it might count as their official international debut. Three timeless classics: "To Love Somebody", "Holiday" and "I Can't See Nobody". Three eccentric, but memorable oddities with truly bizarre titles: "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You" and "Craise Finton Kirk Royal Academy Of Arts". Six fine songs: "Turn Of The Century", "Close Another Door", "One Minute Woman", "Please Read Me", "I Close My Eyes" and "Red Chair Fade Away". "In My Own Time" borrows heavily from the Beatles (and especially from "Doctor Robert" and "Taxman"), but it's still a lovely song. "Cucumber Castle" is the only weak track on this album.

1968 Horizontal (12)

A very uneven album. Two of Bee Gees' classic tunes: "Massachusetts" and "World". A couple of fine songs: "Birdie Told Me", "Lemons Never Forget", "Horizontal", "And The Sun Will Shine". And plenty of disappointments: "Really And Sincerely", "Day Time Girl", "Harry Braff", "With The Sun In My Eyes", "The Change Is Made" and "The Earnest Of Being George".

1968 Idea (12)

Two timeless classics: "I Started A Joke" and "I've Gotta Get A Message To You". Five good songs: "In The Summer Of His Years", "Indian Gin And Whisky Dry", "Let There Be Love", "Kitty Can" and "Down To Earth". And five weak songs: "When The Swallows Fly", "Idea", "Swan Song", "Kilburn Towers" and "I Have Decided To Join The Airforce". The UK version of the album doesn't include "I've Gotta Get A Message To You". Instead, it has "Such A Shame" written by Vince Melouney - the only song not written by a Gibb brother to appear on a Bee Gees' album.

1969 Odessa (17)

An impressive concept album with many amazing songs. The best one is definitely "Lamplight", one of Bee Gees' most original tunes. Five other songs are also very memorable: "You'll Never See My Face Again", "Black Diamond", "Melody Fair", "Suddenly" and "Edison". There are also seven eccentric, but fine tunes: "First Of May", "Give Your Best", "Never Say Never Again", "Odessa (City On The Black Sea)", "I Laugh In Your Face", "Marley Purt Drive" and "Whisper Whisper". The album also includes three fine instrumental compositions: "Seven Seas Symphony", "With All Nations (International Anthem)" and "The British Opera". Only one song is disappointing: "Sound Of Love".

1970 Cucumber Castle (12)

12 good songs: "I.O.I.O.", "If Only I Had My Mind On Something Else", "Sweetheart", "The Lord", "I Lay Down And Die", "Bury Me Down By The River", "My Thing", "Don't Forget To Remember", "I Was The Child", "Then You Left Me", "Turning Tide" and "The Chance Of Love".

1970 2 Years On (12)

8 fine songs: "Sincere Relation", "Lonely Days", "Man For All Seasons", "2 Years On", "Alone Again", "The 1st Mistake I Made", "Tell Me Why" and "Lay It On Me". And 4 weak ones: "Portrait Of Louise", "Every Second Every Minute", "Back Home" and "I'M Weeping".

1971 Trafalgar (12)

An uneven album. Only one timeless classic, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and five fine songs: "Israel", "Remembering", "Don't Wanna Live Inside Myself", "When Do I" and "Trafalgar". The rest, however, isn't impressive at all: "Lion In Winter", "It's Just The Way", "Somebody Stop The Music", "Walking Back To Waterloo", "Dearest" and "The Greatest Man In The World".

1972 To Whom It May Concern (13)

Definitely Bee Gees' most eccentric album, with genuine curiosities like "Paper Mache Cabbages And Kings" (which was a huge hit in Denmark - and nowhere else - staying on their charts for 5 weeks and peaking at number 8), "Road To Alaska", "I Held A Party" and "Sweet Song Of Summer". The best track is definitely "Run To Me", one of their most famous songs. There are also six very good ballads: "Alive", "Never Been Alone", "We Lost The Road", "Sea Of Smiling Faces", "I Can Bring Love" and "You Know It's For You". And only two disappointments: "Bad Bad Dreams" and "Please Don't Turn Out The Lights". According to Maurice Gibb, the title of the album was chosen because, at that time, they didn't really know who their audience was...

1973 Life In A Tin Can (8)

Bee Gees' worst album, the lowest point of the whole career. Eight absolute stinkers: "Saw A New Morning", "I Don't Wanna Be The One", "South Dakota Morning", "Living In Chicago", "While I Play", "My Life Has Been A Song", "Come Home Johnny Bridie" and "Method To My Madness".

1973 A Kick In The Head Is Worth Eight In The Pants (14)

This album was never released. Which is odd, because all the songs here are good: "Wouldn't I Be Someone", "Dear Mr. Kissinger", "Losers And Lovers", "It Doesn't Matter Much To Me", "Elisa", "Home Again Rivers", "Castles In The Air", "King And Country", "Life Am I Wasting My Time", "Rocky L. A.", "Harry's Gate", "Where Is Your Sister", "Jesus In Heaven" and "A Lonely Violin".

1974 Mr Natural (10)

An almost perfect comeback album, with only three weak songs: "Had A Lot Of Love Last Night", "Lost In Your Love" and "Heavy Breathing". The rest is very memorable: "Dogs", "Throw A Penny/Down The Road", "Voices", "Charade", "Mr Natural", "I Can't Let You Go" and "Give A Hand Take A Hand".

1975 Main Course (10)

The birth of the disco music. Two timeless classics: "Jive Talkin'" and "Nights On Broadway". And eight excellent songs: "Baby As You Turn Away", "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)", "All This Making Love", "Wind Of Change", "Come On Over", "Country Lanes", "Edge Of The Universe" and "Songbird".

1976 Children Of The World (10)

Bee Gees' greatest album and one of the greatest disco albums ever. All the songs are timeless masterpieces: "You Should Be Dancing", "Subway", "You Stepped Into My Life", "Love So Right", "Lovers", "Can't Keep A Good Man Down", "Boogie Child", "Love Me", "The Way It Was" and "Children Of The World".

1977 Saturday Night Fever (5)

Possibly the finest soundtrack album of all time, and definitely one of the greatest disco albums ever. 16 compositions, including 7 by Bee Gees, 7 by other artists, and 2 by Beethoven and Mussorgsky.

Five immortal, original songs by Bee Gees: "Stayin' Alive", "Night Fever", "How Deep Is Your Love", "More Than A Woman" and "If I Can't Have You".

There are two versions of "More Than A Woman" on the album, one performed by Bee Gees and another by The Tavares Brothers, and both equally impressive.

The album also includes two superb Bee Gees songs from their previous albums: "Jive Talkin'" and "You Should Be Dancing".

There are also two fabulous disco songs by other artists: "Boogie Shoes" and "Disco Inferno".

"A Fifth Of Beethoven" and "Night On Disco Mountain" are two classical compositions that have been brilliantly updated to the disco era by, respectively, Walter Murphy and David Shire.

There are also four other instrumental numbers: excellent "Manhattan Skyline" and "Salsation" (both by David Shire), fine "K-Jee" by MFSB, and disappointing "Calypso Breakdown" by William Eaton.

"Open Sesame" by Robert Bell is the weakest song on the album.

1979 Spirits Having Flown (10)

A great disco album, with four immortal classics: "Tragedy", "Too Much Heaven", "Love You Inside Out" and "Spirits (Having Flown)". There are also four excellent songs: "Search Find", "Reaching Out", "Living Together" and "Until". Two weak songs, "I'M Satisfied" and "Stop (Think Again)", are also on the album.

1981 Living Eyes (10)

A very weak album, with only one good song: "Paradise". The rest is very disappointing: "Soldiers", "Cryin' Every Day", "Living Eyes", "Don't Fall In Love With Me", "Wildflower", "He's A Liar", "Nothing Could Be Good", "I Still Love You" and "Be Who You Are".

1983 Stayin' Alive (5)

An impressive soundtrack album. Five great original songs by Bee Gees: "I Love You Too Much", "The Woman In You", "Breakout", "Life Goes On" and "Someone Belonging To Someone", as well as a short version of "Stayin' Alive" (1:33). Frank Stallone co-wrote four songs: excellent "Far From Over", fine "Finding Out The Hard Way", pleasant "Moody Girl" and weak "I'M Never Gonna Give You Up". The album also includes two average songs from Tommy Faragher: "Look Out For Number One" and "(We Dance) So Close To The Fire".

1987 E.S.P. (10)

An uneven album. One timeless classic: "You Win Again". Five nice songs: "E.S.P.", "Live Or Die (Hold Me Like A Child)", "Crazy For Your Love", "Backtafunk" and "Overnight". And four disappointing tracks: "Angela", "The Longest Night", "This Is Your Life" and "Giving Up The Ghost".

1989 One (11)

There are only two good songs here: "One" and "Flesh And Blood". The rest are disappointments: "Ordinary Lives", "Bodyguard", "It's My Neighborhood", "Tears", "Tokyo Nights", "Wish You Were Here", "House Of Shame", "Will You Ever Let Me" and "Wing And A Prayer".

1991 High Civilization (11)

An impressive comeback album. 8 great songs: "Secret Love", "The Only Love", "Ghost Train", "Party With No Name", "When He's Gone", "Happy Ever After", "High Civilization" and "Evolution". And 3 weak tracks: "True Confessions", "Dimensions" and "Human Sacrifice".

1993 Size Isn't Everything (11)

Another excellent album from Bee Gees. 11 good original songs: "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Above And Beyond", "Fallen Angel", "Paying The Price Of Love", "Kiss Of Life", "How To Fall In Love Part 1", "Omega Man", "Haunted House", "Heart Like Mine", "Anything For You" and "Blue Island". "Decadance" is a remix of "You Should Be Dancing" (1976).

1997 Still Waters (14)

One timeless classic: "Alone". And 13 fine songs: "My Lover's Prayer", "With My Eyes Closed", "Smoke And Mirrors", "Love Never Dies", "Rings Around The Moon", "I Surrender", "I Could Not Love You More", "Still Waters Run Deep", "Irresistible Force", "Closer Than Close", "Obsessions", "I Will" and "Miracles Happen".

2001 This Is Where I Came In (14)

Bee Gees' last album. An excellent one. Four superb songs: "Technicolor Dreams", "This Is Where I Came In", "Wedding Day" and "Sacred Trust". Seven good tracks: "Man In The Middle", "She Keeps On Coming", "Déjà vu", "Walking On Air", "Voice In The Wilderness", "The Extra Mile" and "Loose Talk Costs Lives".
