2 albums with 22 songs. 4 other songs. 26 songs in total. That's the entire oeuvre of Rodriguez, whose fascinating life story was told in the Oscar-winning documentary "Searching For Sugar Man" (2012).
1970 Cold Fact (12)
Legendary album that sold very poorly in the United States, but later became a cult favourite in South Africa. It's Rodriguez's first and best album, with ten outstanding songs: "Sugar Man", "Crucify Your Mind", "Establishment Blues", "I Wonder", "Rich Folks Hoax", "Hate Street Dialogue", "Jane S. Piddy", "Forget It", "Inner City Blues" and "Like Janis". The album also has two curious musical experiments: "Gommorah" (a bizarre, but melodious, little nursery rhyme) and "Only Good For Conversation" (one of Rodriguez's worst songs).
1971 Coming From Reality (10)
Rodriguez's second and final album. Five excellent songs: "I Think Of You", "To Whom It May Concern", "Halfway Up The Stairs", "Sandrevan Lullaby – Lifestyles" and "A Most Disgusting Song". Three fine, but uneven, tunes: "Climb Up On My Music", "Silver Words" and "Cause". And two of Rodriguez's worst songs: "Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour" and "It Started Out So Nice".
excellent "I'll Slip Away" (1967)
fine "You'd Like To Admit It" (1967)
excellent "Street Boy" (1973)
excellent "Can't Get Away" (1973)
